The farm

Set in the heart of its own 250 acres, Cotton Farm is a peaceful retreat at the end of the day.

Raising a herd of beef cattle, a flock of sheep and a beautiful flock of 300 geese reared from just a couple of days old in the barns before being allowed to graze in the pastures adjacent to the farmhouse. There is also the usual array of hens and ducks.

Walks over the farmland are varied and paths go from the front door, offering a chance to wander over the beautiful countryside. The area is graded for its nature conservation value and much of the farm has been accepted into the Countryside Stewardship Scheme. The bird and plant life is varied around the lake and river with its picturesque stone pack horse bridges, affectionately known as the three 'Roman Bridges'.

The bridges are said to be haunted by Grace Trigg, a servant maid , who after zealously preventing Cromwell’s soldiers from stealing her master’s silver, was beheaded. Poor Grace still wanders the paths carrying her head under her arm!
