Winter does not have to mean all the gardens open to the public are closed. The National Trust at Dunham Massey, Altrincham, Cheshire is at its best in February and even offers special Winter Wonderland garden tours on certain days. Alternatively, you can choose to wander around the attractive streets of Chester and maybe catch a few last bargains in the sales. Parking is free in the Council-run car parks if you arrive after 3pm.
